Johanna is a freelance multimedia journalist based in London. She primarily works in print, data and photo journalism.

With experience reporting from multiple continents, Johanna has a keen interest in unpacking the human impact of global events. For outlets like Wired, Foreign Policy, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail and The Independent, she has reported out stories that shed light on the personal toll that war, big tech, migration, the climate crisis and an ever-changing geopolitical landscape have in shaping people’s everyday lives.

Johanna’s career in journalism began in 2015 when she enrolled at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism in New York. She received a Master of Arts in journalism with her studies focusing on international reporting with a sub-specialty in data journalism.

Johanna was selected among a group of international applicants to be a Jerusalem Press Club Fellow in 2019, sending her to Israel and the West Bank to report on current affairs, the tech industry and that spring’s federal election.

Having worked in both large and small newsrooms with varying levels of resources, Johanna is an astute journalist when it comes to covering breaking news.

Her years of experience within national newsrooms have made her equally comfortable filing seconds-to-the-air copy for an evening broadcast or holding the pen on multiple live blogs at once.
